A student of La Monte Young and Morton Subotnick, protegee to Tony Conrad and founder of the highly influential experimental music program at the Kitchen in lower Manhattan. The first to apply multiple electric guitars to the extended-duration, overtone-drenched minimalism of the 60's. The visceral punch and rhythmic brashness of flea-bitten punk rock meet up against the textural sophistication and experimentalism of the starched and prim intellectual avant-garde. Music that so energized 'the scene' it spawned the likes of Mars, Glenn Branca, Band of Susans, Sonic Youth, and Swans, surely nothing to scoff at. A comprehensive 3 disc set that includes all of his major 'minimal' works and the epic, unreleased AN ANGEL…scored for 100 guitars! Includes 140-page booklet featuring tons of photos with essays by Rhys Chatam, Tony Conrad, and Lee Ranaldo.
